Have you ever dreamed of learning animation so you can bring your own stories to life, but aren't sure where to start? This course gives you a strong foundation to begin your journey. Over sixteen live sessions across eight weeks, you’ll learn the essential skills needed to create high-quality animation that truly captures attention. Through fun, hands-on exercises, you’ll begin drawing with style and personality. From the very first class, you’ll start bringing your drawings to life by applying core animation principles. You’ll explore shape language to design an original character, then watch it walk, run, and leap with energy. By the end of the course, you’ll have a polished animation piece ready to share with the world, and a solid first step into independent creation.

STUDENT PROFILE

Who is this course for?

Level Zero of our Dare to Create program is designed for anyone fifteen and older who wants to learn animation as a way to express themselves. Without the pressure of grades or the overwhelming demand of endless assignments, we’ll turn your learning experience into an exciting and rewarding adventure. That said, to get the best results, we encourage you to make a personal commitment to putting effort into the assigned exercises and to explore beyond what is covered in class.

Syllabus

Conoce el temario:

Class 1 - Dot, dot… line!

Let’s get started! In this class, you’ll discover that drawing is a universal language—one that allows anyone to express ideas, emotions, and imagination. Like any language, it’s built on fundamental building blocks, and we’ll explore them step by step. Through simple exercises, you’ll begin training your hand and developing greater control over your lines, all while becoming naturally comfortable with the tool. Then, we’ll dive into how animation works and use that knowledge to bring a square character to life.

Class 2 - Turn the volume up

In our second class, we’ll learn how to turn shapes into volumes. We’ll use line to express form, and then introduce the concept of value as the most powerful tool for making our drawings feel solid. We’ll repeat the animation from the previous class to reinforce what we’ve learned—this time, instead of a simple square, we’ll bring a cube to life.

Class 3 - Journey into space

Now that we understand the concept of volume, we’ll continue learning how to create space. Our drawings will no longer exist on a single plane, but will begin to suggest the illusion of depth. We’ll introduce exercises that are especially useful for understanding how everyday objects are built, helping us develop our perception of three-dimensional form. A pair of legs and feet will emerge from our cube, giving it the ability to walk in the next class.

Class 4 - Not just any shape

In this class, we’ll have some fun exploring shapes and volumes by stretching, squashing, twisting, bending, and pinching them to create playful and interesting forms. We’ll begin the initial block-in of our character and, by the end, animate our two legged cube taking its first steps.

Class 5 - Guess Who

Does your character wear a hat? We’ll continue refining the initial block-in of our character. We’ll talk about color as a communication tool and explore different ways of presenting our newly created character. Our walking cube now has a torso, head, and arms. Let’s animate it running!

Class 6 - What’s Around You?

Every story takes place in a world: “I was walking down the street…”, “As I crossed the river…”, “That cold night…”, and so on. In the previous class, our character started running—but it was still moving through a void. What if we gave it a world to live in? In this class, we’ll explore the fundamentals of environment design and introduce lighting as a dramatic tool. Our character is getting ready to jump…

Class 7 - The ring is mine

In this penultimate class, we’ll focus on designing objects that belong to a character. Say “green lightsaber,” and most people think of Luke Skywalker; say “Lasso of Truth,” and Wonder Woman comes to mind; say “straw hat,” and you think of Monkey D. Luffy. We’ll learn how to design signature objects that are instantly recognizable as part of a character, even when seen on their own. By the end, our animated character will make a joyful, energetic leap.

Class 8 - Mirror, mirror...

In this final class, we’ll review and reinforce the concepts covered throughout the course. Our animated character will land in a special way to ensure the animation loops smoothly. We’ll finish by learning basic post-production techniques to give the piece a polished, professional look. We’ll also take a look at what’s coming next in our Dare to Create program.
